There was a myth that the Victorians, notorious for their elaborate and intense funereal practices, would use small vials called Lachrymatories (or "tear catchers) to save their tears during a funeral. It is said that they took this practice from the Egyptians, Greeks, or Romans, but sadly no proof has ever been found. They were most likely perfume bottles.
We have always been fascinated by the idea of the tear catcher, so we created this lovely pin to pay homage what could have been. It features a black and silver tear catcher, adorned with ornate filigree, and a banner wrapping around that says "It'll End in Tears"...our favorite This Mortal Coil album. Perfect for yourself or any friend who adores mourning culture.
2" inch tall enamel pin with 2 pins/backs.
