When the Prince of Wales (later King George IV) wanted to woo his estranged lover back, he sent her a miniature painting of his eye with the note: “I send you a parcel, and I send you at the same time an eye. If you have not totally forgotten the whole countenance, I think the likeness will strike you.” Bejeweled Lover's Eyes were thereafter worn as a symbol of devotion and loyalty. Folded card and envelope. 4.25" x 5.5". Blank interior. Digital offset + gold foil. Bright White.
About the maker: Open Sea is a Brooklyn creative studio that specializes in fine stationery and paper goods. They create paper goods that tell a story, not just with words and phrases, but with symbols, talismans, long lost traditions, and creatures from the natural world. They are inspired by the occult, the eccentricities of the Victorian era, naturalist prints, and treasures of the plant and animal kingdom. Each piece is meticulously designed with purpose and intention, and they pride themselves in their attention to the very small details. The company was established in 2015 by Melissa Constandse, named for the salty, crystal-clear blue shores of her home in the Yucatan Peninsula.
